More patio progress!

My cushions came in today!

Remember the Frontgate chaise lounge chairs I found in the trash?!  I haven't repaired them yet, but couldn't resist putting the new cushions on to see how they looked!  I need a little table in between them to hold my afternoon margarita(s)!

This is the bamboo dining set I bought on Craig's List for $45 and painted/stained.  I love the way the chair cushions look!

This is the Frontgate teak chair I found in the trash!  It needs a little throw pillow.  I found the ceramic garden stool at Big Lots for $15.

Now here's my next project....

Shield your eyes!

This is the settee I bought on Craig's List for $65.  I'm lovingly calling it my Holly Hobby couch.  Dontcha just LOVE that little ditzy floral print?!  Ha!  Rudy, our puppy, thinks it makes a really nice bed!

My dilemma is how the heck I'm going to recover this thing!

It has a fabric back with curves behind the pillows...

...and across the back.

Mrs. FYN does NOT sew....yet.  I have a sewing machine, but still trying to figure out how to use it.  Any ideas for how to recover this thing with no sewing?

Also, should I sand and re-stain the wood finish or should I paint it?  White?

Well. Please post a tutorial on how you refinish the sofa-I've seen a couple on craigslist I've wanted to purchase, but I didn't know how to refinish it. :) Everything looks awesome though. I love the bright colors.

Your patio is going to look amazing. I love the turqoise. I would definitely paint the wood white. I don't know how to upholster anything, but I can't wait to see what you do.

Thank you so much for your advice on my blog...we actually have white shades in storage.I will try that.
I love your new patio furniture!!!!
I wish I could help you with the reupholstering...maybe go to the library and find a good book on upholstering. But as far as the wood: now that I have a sense of your style-yep. Sand and restain.

Love your progress!!! I would paint the settee...but it will look good either way. I am not really any help in the upholstry. I think for the main part you can get tack strips that will allow you to wrap your fabric around and tack -- no sewing. But I have not a clue on the cushions. Maybe have a party with your friends that can sew??

I can help you with the reupholstery. Send me an email if you want some detailed help.

I would for sure do white. OR! Turquoise with an outdoor fabric in white! I'm dying - it would look soooo cool!

Girl, you really know how to stretch a dollar. Love those blue cushions and that little side table from BigLots is so cute.
The sofa is beautiful. Good luck with recovering. I'm not sure how to do it without sewing.

You're on a roll!! That patio is looking amazing. :) By the time the next Show Me the Progress party rolls around, you'll have a perfect space!

I'd do some practicing with pillows on the sewing machine before you try tackling the Holly Hobby couch. ;) I don't think there's a away around that project without sewing, especially if you want it to hold up and look nice. Maybe you could find someone to do the difficult parts (ie. the back) and have someone teach you to do the cushions/pillows. :)

I vote for white paint!

That color is gorgeous; you've done wonders so far! Can't wait to see the finished result.

You just use the pieces you pull of as a pattern with no sewing involved...only staples and a hot glue gun for trim to cover staples. Then for the cushions maybe you could just tuck a sheet in a coordinating color under the bottom of the cushions and pin into place. Make it look like one long cushion.

I inherited a similar sofa plus love seat/chair. I was quoted $1800 to reuphoster them... ugh. I am SO dying to find out how you solve this one. I would love to reupholter mine on my own, too. When you figure it out, please... do tell!

Everything is looking great! Sorry - I am of no help on the upholstery project. The only thing I have done in that category is cover my dining room chair seats.

That patio is awesome! As for the sofa, I think it would be great to do it white because it's a little too ornate to stay wood, in my opinion. Good luck with that reupholstery, girl!

Wow - who in the WORLD is throwing out Frontgate furniture?? That is crazy!!!! I love your patio. That blue color is awesome! And that settee is beyond cool!

I would paint the wood and sand it a little. That is a big upholstery job! I think you can do all of it but the cushions. If you have a staple gun and heavy duty glue you can do everything else. If you don't sew, I would put an ad on Craigslist for a seamstress and find out how much it would be to have cushions made for the seats.

It will be gorgeous!

Love your patio furniture! YOu've got some great finds! Are you planning on using this outside?! I think that would be awesome if you could somehow water proof and weather proof this! Man, I have no idea how you'd even go about this! Good luck and can't wait to see!

LOVE the patio furniture!!!
On the sofa... I would totally paint it. I do upholstery & a lot of it, is just removing, making a pattern from the old pieces ( make sure that you cut them a little bigger than the original pieces ) & tacking them on. The cushions would have to be sewn though. Possibly you could barter with a seamstress : ) If I lived closer, I would love to help on that project. It will be fun to see what you do with it...keep us posted : )

very nice patio. I love patios. I'd say paint and tackle that couch. Upholstery isn't that hard. If you can staple you can uphoster. If you can't sew ( i can't either) just get someone who can to do the cushions. The backs and sides of the sofa should be pretty easy. One tip I'd suggest, since it's your first time use a solid color for the sofa. It's sometimes hard to get a print or strip straight.

This blogger has some great tutorials.

Hi Kendall! I don't know how I missed you during Amada's party, but WOW! Your patio is looking amazing! I am sooo in love with those peacock chairs!

Regarding the couch, I would just dive in. Go ahead and start pulling off the fabric on the sides- there may even be rattan under there in which case you could avoid upholstering that part. Actually, that part is probably pretty easy to upholster- just cut the new fabric to fit, staple the fabric in place and hide the staples with trim

I love the color of the wood, but it would look pretty painted too. Where is it going?

I would give sewing the cushions a try! I have a slipcover tutorial on my blog which covers cushions- I'd be happy to walk you through it if you're nervous!

If you're really not ready to tackle the cushions yet, you could always just wrap the cushions in the new fabric like a package and duct tape the seam in back. Then you can sew them whenever you're ready. You could also have someone else do the sewing for you. It may not cost that much since you have the old covers as patterns. You could check at your local drycleaner tailor.
