Like Mother, Like Daughter

My mother is a furniture mover; no, no...not what you are thinking!

She rearranges the furniture in her house A LOT!  I always marvel at how she can make a room look brand new just by moving things around.

I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, because I'm always moving things around too.  This weekend I rearranged the family room.

The sectional used to sit square in the room and I put it on an angle.  I also took down the dark brown curtains.  I'm going to make some shades for the windows....someday!

I moved this console table in from the study.  See that dark niche with all the electronics in the background?

Here's what will go in that space soon....

My talented brother-in-law made this built-in for us.  He just has to stain it cherry to match our kitchen cabinets.

Mod Podge Love...

I love Mod Podge!  It's just the coolest, goopiest miracle worker in a bottle!

I saw this idea at The Charm Of Home and just had to try it out!  Thanks Sherry for the wonderful inspiration!

Bad blogger here didn't snap before pictures!

Old desk + scrapbook paper + mod podge = Happy Mrs. FYN!

I still need to do a couple more coats, but couldn't wait to show you.  This will go in my craft room, which is on it's way to "fabulous-ness" as we speak!

Blue, Cream & Espresso Master Bedroom Retreat

I'm so excited to reveal my latest decorating project!

Here is my client's room BEFORE...

I had a blank slate to work with (every decorator's dream)

Here is the relaxing retreat AFTER!

I used Sherwin Williams Meditative, which is a soft gray blue, in the master bedroom and repositioned the bed from the window wall.  The candle sconces over the bed came from Target.

I got the best SCORE ever on the bedding.  It was FREE on Craig's List.  Always check the "FREE" section; you never know what you will find!  It was brand new Candace Olsen bedding worth $400!

I love this little tree pillow I found at a garage sale for $1!

The lamps were in my "stash" and I painted them bronze (they were silver) and bought linen look shades at Wal-Mart.  The lamps are elevated on books I found at Goodwill.  For instant "oomph" I love adding fresh flowers to any room.

In a casual room, I love to lean art instead of hanging.  The hurricane was a Goodwill find for $1.99.

This is the wall across from the bed.

I made the art with 12x12 frames found on clearance at Garden Ridge.  They were black and I spray painted them Espresso.  I used scrapbook paper and decals inside the frames.  This is a cheap, easy way to create your own art!

I found this HUGE lantern at Home Goods on clearance for $15.  I placed candles and shells inside.

My client has beautiful family photography, which I had printed in sepia tone.  I used more scrapbook paper to create the 4 frame art piece at the top of the arrangement.

I ordered a chocolate plush chaise lounge that will go in this corner.

I used panels on either side of the window wall, just to soften it up a bit.

Instead of a curtain rod, I used $.99 hooks from Home Depot and clip rings.  I dressed up the plain panels with some ribbon trim at the top.

The art niche outside the master bedroom was painted to match and I refinished a vase to go inside.

The vase was white.  I spray painted espresso, then added some of the blue color and a metallic glaze over the whole thing.

I also did some sprucing up in her bathroom.  Here it is BEFORE...

And AFTER...

We used a little darker blue than the bedroom. I added shelves and patterned towels to the chocolate towels she already had.

These are baskets I got with bath & body gifts.  I never throw these out and they look great spray painted espresso!

The owner had these glass pieces, which I dressed up with a little ribbon trim.  I filled with shells & soaps.

A little bud vase with fresh flowers is a nice touch in the bathroom.

So, that's what has kept me away from blogging for the last couple of weeks.  I am so pleased with how the room turned out and the owners loved it as well.  Success!

We are installing our wood plank flooring soon, so I'm on a very TIGHT decorating budget.  I "shopped" my house this week to freshen things up!  The best part?  I didn't spend a penny!

I created a summer beach collection fireplace...

I decluttered the lamp table...

I filled old jars with smooth rocks and sea glass...

And finally, I overhauled my foyer and created a simple tablescape on my mirrored buffet which was hiding in the dining room!

Moving the large mirror to the stairwell nook and filling a seagrass container with driftwood helped hide the ugly air vent!

Here are my fave "shops" from 2 weeks ago (I was a loser and forgot to put the event up last weekend when I was away at my scrapbooking retreat!)

Tracy over at Tracy's Trinkets and Treasures gave her patio light a makeover by painting it and adding the cute numbers!  Love this idea!

Leanne at Organize & Decorate Everything added vinyl cutouts to these cute mirrors.  What a great idea and when she gets tired of the look, she can just peel off the vinyl!

So now it's your turn!
