Design Advice on a bird-sized budget!

Finesse Your Nest now offers online design consultations!  I'm not a professional decorator but I have a knack for showing others how to decorate on the cheap, rehab thrift store or trash picked furniture, put together a paint plan, arrange furniture, and find unique accessories or repurpose what you already have, all while saving money! 

I use "mood boards" to show you a concept, like this...

I also go a step further and address each element of the room in detail, giving my clients furniture styles to look for, cool ideas for wall decor, several options for paint combinations, as well as addressing any special needs.  I ask A LOT of questions in the beginning, to develop the most comprehensive plan possible for your space.

I like to call it "Mood Board Plus" because I pretty much throw everything at you, including the kitchen sink (only kidding)!   I don't know about you, but I like having a lot of information and then whittling down from there, and I love having lots of options to think about.

I know there are outrageous sums of money being charged for online consultations these days and I'm sure in a lot of cases you are really getting a value.  I am offering plans that don't "break the bank", allowing you more budget to decorate!

Welcome and I'm so glad you stopped by!

I love beautiful decorating "on the cheap" and I started Finesse Your Nest as a fun way to chronicle my adventures in trash pickin', thrifting, rehabbing, and trying to make my home a more beautiful place.  Little did I know I would meet so many wonderful people along the way that shared the same interests!  

Finesse Your Nest has evolved in the last year from just a fun little hobby to an actual decorating business.  I didn't know a year ago that this little blog would open up so many opportunities to share my decorating passion with others.  I'm now helping others in the Houston area through actual design jobs as well as custom design plans.  I'm also venturing into the land of "online consultations".  See the Design Advice tab for more about that.

Okay, shameless plug over!  Now a little more about me...

I was born and raised in Southern Oklahoma, but have lived in Houston for the last 14 years.  The creative "bug" runs in my family.  My grandmother was a working artist/crafter all her life and my Mom is one of the most creative people I know!  

I met my husband in 1997 and we married in 2000.  I have 2 great boys, a 14 year old stepson who will start High School next year (*sigh, I'm getting old!) and a 9 year old who keeps me on my toes!  We live in Katy, TX, a suburb of Houston where my days are filled playing chauffeur to the 2 boys with all their activities, working on the PTA, helping my husband with his business, blogging and moonlighting as a quasi-decorator.

I was in retail my entire working career, starting out in buying at Foley's (Macy's now), then as the art, mirror, and frame buyer for Garden Ridge, a home decor chain with stores mainly in the Southwest.  I then ventured into costume jewelry, buying for Charming Charlie, a retail chain located here in Houston.

I've always loved the look of stained concrete. Ever the ambitious one, I decided to tackle my back patio. It was super duper easy! If you want to try it, contact me and I'll give you the "step by step".

Don't like your bathroom cabinets? Paint them!!

We bought our home newly built in 2006. I'm still living with some of the builder's choices, but the bathroom cabinets had to GO! They were white and blah, blah, blah. I painted them chocolate (the exact color is Ralph Lauren "Howard" in satin finish) and added oil rubbed bronze handles. Eventually I will change out the faucets (they are chrome, ick!) but for now, the room has a little more character than what I started with!

Welcome! Glad you stopped by. First, about me....I'm a stay-at-home Mom of 2 active boys who loves decorating. I find inspiration from anything....magazines, websites, even the dumpster! I love decorating my home and I like to do it ON THE CHEAP (without looking cheap, of course)!
I created this blog to share ideas & inspirations as well as provide a play-by-play of my "decorating adventures" as I like to call them. After all, our home is our most important investment and decorating it should be fun!
